Having equipment that protects against water and wind elemental damage will help you here, due to the fact that Nova
Dragon often uses attacks based around those two elements. The Nova Dragon has some viscous attacks, but you can actually
put it to sleep by using Quina's Blue Magic attack; Night. Other than that, ensure you have your strongest party for powerful
attacks and your best magic spells, such as Shiva.
Maliris is the first of the four Chaos Guardians summoned by Kuja. He specialises in Fire magic, therefore Ice works
wonders against it, as well as your strongest physical attacks from the likes of Steiner and Zidane. Despite this, defence
should be your main priority here, because Maliris has good attacks, so have a healer such as Garnet or Eiko for curative
spells.
Tiamat is arguably the toughest of the Chaos Guardians, but it certainly doesn't mean that he's unbeatable. He'll probably
cast Float on your party making his wind elemental spells damage you. You must quickly counter Tiamat after he uses Float
with physical attacks, so that you return to the ground. Tiamat can also blow your characters out of the battle using Snort,
which doesn't help your case. Use your best attacks and magic, and don't rush into things, and curative and defensive spells
should be your main priority here.
Kraken is the only boss on Final Fantasy IX with more than one part to it, but despite its two tentacles, you should
focus all attacks on Kraken himself. He is the third Chaos Guardian and likes to use water elemental attacks. Having Auto-Regen,
Auto-Life and equipment that protects your characters against water based attacks will almost make you invincible here, but
still don't take Kraken for granted, he is quite quick for a big fiend!
Lich is the fourth and final Chaos Guardian, so don't expect a walk in the park. Take advantage of Lich's weaknesses,
by using Firaga and Holy and use your best physical attacks. Make sure you have a healer in your pack, such as Garnet or Eiko
to provide the party with consistent curing magic.
